SOCCER, SERIE A: THERE ARE OVER 25.5 MILLION FANS.
JUVENTUS, INTER, MILAN, NAPOLI, AND ROMA LEAD THE RANKINGS IN TERMS OF NUMBER OF FANS. LECCE, ATALANTA, VERONA, NAPOLI, AND BOLOGNA TOP THE RANKINGS IN TERMS OF FAN GROWTH.
There are 25,518,000 fans of Serie A football teams at the end of the 2024/25 season, a figure that confirms the passion and loyalty surrounding Italy’s most important league, according to the Sponsor Value survey conducted by StageUp and Ipsos since the 2000/01 season.
Fans of Serie A clubs represent 86.8% of the 29,393,000 people interested in the championship, which saw a 4.7% increase compared to June 2022 (when there were 28,064,000), with female fans reaching 45%. Although the number of people interested has remained largely stable over the last two years, it is still lower than in 2019: in the pre-COVID-19 year, it reached 30,396,000.
TEAMS WITH THE MOST FANS. The ‘Top 5’ remains unchanged, with Juventus confirming its first place with 7,864,000 fans. Behind them are Inter (4,180,000) and Milan (3,816,000), Napoli (3,036,000) and Roma (1,803,000). Juventus, confirming the strength of its relationship with its fans, maintains its lead with a slight decline of 1.4% compared to last year, despite fluctuating sporting results. Inter consolidates its lead over Milan in the special fan ranking, recording a higher number of fans for the third consecutive year. Napoli, Italian champions, recorded a 15.2% increase in the number of fans compared to the 2021/22 season, the last before the two league titles won in the last three years.
THE TEAMS WITH THE BIGGEST INCREASE IN FANS. Lecce (+10%) tops the rankings for fan growth compared to the 2023/24 season. It is followed by Atalanta (+7.5%), Verona (+4.8%), Napoli (+4.5%), and Bologna (+4.1%). The increase in fan bases can be attributed to several factors. On the one hand, sporting results, especially if unexpected or achieved in the dying moments. On the other hand, the club’s connection with the local area and the continuous involvement linked to remaining in the upper echelons of the table throughout the season, fighting for important goals such as the title, European qualification, or maintan Serie A.
