Fabulous Bologna: here's what this Champions League is worth

These are magical days that are being experienced in Bologna. Thiago Motta’s men have brought back the Europe that matters to the shadow of the Towers, now it will have to be consolidated and pampered. To do so, Bologna president Joey Saputo will have at his disposal significant economic revenues, which come from sports awards and will come from sponsors, now hunting for visibility on a continental scale.
BOLOGNA IN CHAMPIONS: CLUB COFFERS SMILE
Participation in the Champions League will provide Bologna with a solid economic base, according to Calcio e Finanza, thanks to the bonuses and minimum fees provided by the tournament. Let’s start with the participation bonus: each of the 36 clubs that qualify for the first phase will receive 18.62 million euros. In addition, performance bonuses, although slightly reduced from the current ones, will continue to be an important source of revenue. Wins will be rewarded with 2.1 million euros and ties with 700,000 euros. An extra bonus will be distributed based on the final standings of the first phase, with the worst team receiving at least a share of 275,000 euros. Adding participation bonuses and minimum bonuses for results, it is estimated that Bologna will collect a total of 36.5 million euros.

DALL’ARA INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASE: SPONSORS OBSERVE
Access to the Champions League, however, represents not only a direct economic benefit, but also greatly enhances the club’s attractiveness to potential sponsors. The international visibility offered by Europe’s most prestigious competition will allow the club to present itself as an ideal showcase for brands wishing to expand their presence in global markets. It is easy to guess then what the achievement of this historic sporting result may mean: a turning point for the club’s finances, but also for its visibility and commercial attractiveness. The expected revenues and international exposure will provide the Emilia club with new opportunities to grow and establish itself more and more at the European level.
